While Harlin Jones may have started as a New York-based brand, launching in Australia last year, its founder and creative director, Sumer Sayan, was raised in Australia after emigrating from Turkey with his family at the age of five. As such, Harlin Jones’ handcrafted pieces feel distinctly transnational in their eclectic flavour, drawing inspiration from Brooklyn graffiti and tattoo art to Art Deco architecture, ancient civilisations and, of course, Turkish craftsmanship — Sayan completed his apprenticeship in Istanbul. While the brand initially launched as a men’s line, Harlin Jones has since expanded into women’s fine jewellery, offering everything from sabre-like diamond earrings and ear-cuffs to unique, custom-made engagement rings.
